چکیده

We obtain a nontrivial upper bound for almost all elements of the sequences of real numbers which are multiplicative and at the prime indices are distributed according to the Sato–Tate density. Examples of such sequences come from coefficients of several L-functions of elliptic curves and modular forms. In particular, we show that |τ(n)| ≤ n11/2(log n)−1/2+o(1) for a set of n of asymptotic density 1, where τ(n) is the Ramanujan τ function while the standard argument yields log 2 instead of −1/2 in the power of the logarithm. Another consequence of our result is that in the number of representations of n by a binary quadratic form one has slightly more than square-root cancellations for almost all integers n. In addition we obtain a central limit theorem for such sequences, assuming a weak hypothesis on the rate of convergence to the Sato– Tate law. For Fourier coefficients of primitive holomorphic cusp forms such a hypothesis is known conditionally assuming the automorphy of all symmetric powers of the form and seems to be within reach unconditionally using the currently established potential automorphy.

Periodic Oscillations in the Analysis of Algorithms and Their Cancellations

A large number of results in analysis of algorithms contain fluctuations. A typical result might read “The expected number of . . . for large n behaves like log2 n + constant + delta(log2 n), where delta(x) is a periodic function of period one and mean zero.” Examples include various trie parameters, approximate counting, probabilistic counting, radix exchange sort, leader election, skip lists,...

Normal forms of Hopf Singularities: Focus Values Along with some Applications in Physics

This paper aims to introduce the original ideas of normal form theory and bifurcation analysis and control of small amplitude limit cycles in a non-technical terms so that it would be comprehensible to wide ranges of Persian speaking engineers and physicists. The history of normal form goes back to more than one hundreds ago, that is to the original ideas coming from Henry Poincare. This tool p...

An Improved Modular Modeling for Analysis of Closed-Cycle Absorption Cooling Systems

A detailed modular modeling of an absorbent cooling system is presented in this paper. The model including the key components is described in terms of design parameters, inputs, control variables, and outputs. The model is used to simulate the operating conditions for estimating the behavior of individual components and system performance, and to conduct a sensitivity analysis based on the give...

EFFICIENT SIMULATION FOR OPTIMIZATION OF TOPOLOGY, SHAPE AND SIZE OF MODULAR TRUSS STRUCTURES

The prevalent strategy in the topology optimization phase is to select a subset of members existing in an excessively connected truss, called Ground Structure, such that the overall weight or cost is minimized. Although finding a good topology significantly reduces the overall cost, excessive growth of the size of topology space combined with existence of varied types of design variables challe...

Retailer’s inventory system in a two-level trade credit financing with selling price discount and partial order cancelations

In today’s fast marketing over the Internet or online, many retailers want to trade at the same time and change their marketing strategy to attract more customers. Some of the customers may decide to cancel their orders partially with a retailer due to various reasons such as increase in customer’s waiting time, loss of customer’s goodwill on retailer’s business, attractive promotional schemes ...
